The Austrian capital is one of the European cities with the longest-lived Christmas spirit and is considered one of the par excellence places for Christmas markets.
The most ancient traditions in Christmas markets, dating back to the twelfth century, today have become major attractions for both locals and visitors.
The City Hall is one of the most splendid amongst the numerous monumental buildings in Vienna. It was designed by Friedrich Schmidt (1825-1891) and built between 1872 and 1883 in gothical style, with a tower similar to gothic cathedrals.
