For the first time in Olympic history after public online voting, were chosen three thematically appropriate mascots as the the polar bear (White Tedy Bear or Bely Mishka) because winter is cold, the European hare as a symbol of fertility and Amur leopard, a strong, fast and beautiful big cat, favourite of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
