Description: The Feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus, celebrated on August 6th, is considered as a major feast among the twelve Great Feasts in Orthodoxy. The feast commemorates the transfiguration or the metamorphosis of Christ on Mount Tabor in Galilee, when our Lord appeared in His divine glory before the Apostles Peter, James, and John. After the Divine Liturgy on the day of the Transfiguration, grapes, apples or some other fruit are traditionally blessed as the 'first fruits' for the year. |
