The Ballroom is a spacious room of 270 square meters, which occupied most of the western half of the Great Palace in Peterhof, St.Petersburg, Russia. The fesive atmosphere is created by the decoration with abundance of gilding, mirrors, paintings and murals, pendant 'mirror' arches and parquet of precious woods as light and dark oak, maple and walnut.
The windows are arranged in two tiers, trapped with gilded carvings.
After visiting Chateau Versailles in 1717, Peter the Great returned with some big ideas, which realized during the later part of his reign as the Tsar of Russia.
Restored after the Second World War to its former glory, the sumptious residence of Peter the Great in Peterhof is often referred to as the 'Russian Versailles'.
