Felix Baumgartner Icarus Mission across the English Channel - In 2003 Felix Baumgartner became the first man to fly across the English Channel as a bird, from England to France, only in a specially-designed aerodynamic suit to protect him from the extreme cold, with a breathing apparatus and a wing of carbon fibre, 1.80 metre long. The mission of the Austrian daredevil was called 'Icarus 2', the name of the mythical Icarus who flew too close to the sun and melted the wax of his wings.
